B Mirror Report: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam announced that all fuel pumps along highways will remain open 24 hours a day for seven days before Eid and five days after Eid to ensure uninterrupted travel for passengers during the holiday period.
The minister made the statement today while speaking to reporters at the BRTC bus counter in Gulistan, following an inspection of traffic conditions in the capital. He was accompanied by State Minister Habibur Rashid and Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Dr. Mohammed Ziaul Haque.
According to the minister, buses are departing on schedule, and fares are being charged according to approved rates, with no signs of overcharging. “The buses are leaving for their destinations at the designated time, and no additional fare is being taken,” he said.
He also confirmed that the government has ensured sufficient fuel supply for public transport and instructed operators not to cancel or refund advance bus tickets due to fuel shortages. “There was an attempt to refund advance tickets over oil concerns, but we did not allow it. All advance tickets remain valid,” he added.
The minister expressed confidence that travelers will enjoy a comfortable and passenger-friendly journey during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr.
Regarding rail services, he noted that efforts are underway to ensure smooth train operations with available coaches and staff. After a recent visit to the railway station, he said he was satisfied with the management and operational arrangements.
When asked about potential phased fuel rationing at pumps, the minister hinted that the public may receive “good news” soon. He also warned that transport operators will not be allowed to raise fares or impose extra charges during Eid, emphasizing that the government is closely monitoring the situation.
In preparation for the holiday rush, authorities have taken steps to keep roads operational, including road repairs and removal of construction materials from active work sites. At ongoing construction zones, at least one lane has been kept open to facilitate smoother traffic.
Officials have also identified 260 locations nationwide prone to traffic congestion during the Eid period. Law enforcement agencies, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), district administrations, and transport authorities have been mobilized to manage the flow and ensure safe and hassle-free travel for commuters.
