Bangladesh exports to Malaysia surge fivefold in a decade

B Mirror Report: Bangladesh’s exports to Malaysia have increased more than fivefold over the past decade, rising from $56 million to nearly $300 million, reflecting stronger bilateral trade relations, said Mohd Shuhada Othman, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Bangladesh.

He said future cooperation between the two countries would focus on high-tech sectors, particularly semiconductor collaboration, and enhanced engagement in the global halal economy.

The Malaysian envoy made the remarks while speaking at the Silver Jubilee celebration of the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI), held at the Sheraton Dhaka on Saturday. He attended the programme as the chief guest and also unveiled the chamber’s new logo.

He praised BMCCI for its role in strengthening trade and investment ties between Bangladesh and Malaysia and supporting Malaysia’s position as the ninth-largest foreign investor in Bangladesh.

BMCCI President Shabbir A Khan highlighted the chamber’s achievements since its establishment in 2001, saying the Silver Jubilee logo represents resilience, progress and future growth. He also paid tribute to the 12 founding members and acknowledged the contributions of former leaders.

Over the past 25 years, BMCCI has played a key role in promoting bilateral trade and investment through various initiatives, including investment forums, trade fairs, business delegations, seminars and symposiums, helping deepen economic cooperation between the two countries.
