UK pledges closer ties with bangladesh after elections

B Mirror Report: The United Kingdom has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Bangladesh on shared priorities, including economic growth, migration, climate action and security, following the country’s recent parliamentary elections.

A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) said the UK looks forward to the new government advancing democratic, economic and social reforms.

The spokesperson welcomed the parliamentary elections held on February 12, noting that the peaceful voting process produced conclusive results. “This marks an important step forward in Bangladesh’s ambitions and reflects the aspirations of its people,” the British official said.

Earlier, the UK congratulated Tarique Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), and his party on their electoral victory. The UK also extended greetings to the people of Bangladesh as the nation begins a new chapter.

In a message issued on Friday, the British High Commission, Dhaka reiterated its intention to deepen cooperation with Bangladesh in areas of mutual interest, particularly economic development, migration management, climate resilience and regional security.
