Juile Kushtia Correspondent: In a joint operation in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia, the Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB) has seized illegal fishing nets—China duari and current nets—worth approximately Tk 140 million.
The raids were conducted on October 11 and 12 in the Ashrayan BOP area’s Chollishpara and Madaner Ghat, led by Lt. Col. Md. Mahbub Murshed Rahman, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, and the Upazila Fisheries Officer.
The Kushtia Battalion confirmed the seizure in a press release issued Monday evening.
According to Lt. Col. Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Shikder, Director of the BGB South-West Region, the Jashore Region has achieved significant success in the past year in combating gold, drug, and arms smuggling. During this time, the BGB seized 122 kg of gold, drugs and smuggled goods worth Tk 40 billion, and conducted 4,752 anti-human trafficking awareness meetings.
The press release also stated that since 2025, the Kushtia Battalion alone has seized illegal drugs, arms, and contraband worth Tk 1.07 billion and destroyed illegal nets worth Tk 490 million. This latest operation further proves that the battalion is not only securing the borders but also playing a leading role in protecting national resources and aquatic biodiversity.
The confiscated illegal nets will be destroyed in public following proper procedures in the presence of the Upazila Fisheries Officer.
BGB officials involved in the operation stated that the Kushtia Battalion maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward drugs and smuggling in addition to ensuring border security. They reaffirmed their commitment to working for national security and public interest alongside local communities.
