Sherpur Correspondent:   A total of 635 small and marginal farmers in Nakla upazila of Sherpur have received vegetable seeds and chemical fertilizers free of cost under the government’s agricultural incentive program for the 2025–26 fiscal year.

The distribution program, organized by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), took place on Tuesday at the Nakla upazila parishad premises. The initiative aims to boost early winter vegetable production during the Rabi season, encouraging cultivation both in homesteads and on agricultural land.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Jahangir Alam presided over and inaugurated the program. Among others present were Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sadia Afrin Anny, Upazila Agriculture Officer (UAO) Agriculturist Shahriar Morsalin Mehedi, Agriculture Extension Officer (AEO) Sagor Chandra Dey, SAPPO Rahul Amin, several Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officers, local officials, journalists, and beneficiary farmers.

UAO Shahriar Morsalin Mehedi said that 230 farmers received nine packets each of assorted vegetable seeds for homestead gardening, while 405 farmers received seeds of bottle gourd, eggplant, cucumber, or sweet pumpkin for field cultivation. Each of these farmers also received 10 kg of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and 10 kg of Muriate of Potash (MoP) fertilizer.

The initiative is part of the government’s continued support to strengthen food security and improve rural livelihoods through enhanced crop production.
