The week began with a downturn in the country’s premier stock exchange, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), as all major indices closed lower on Sunday. Alongside the decline in indices, market turnover also dropped slightly compared to the previous trading day.
According to data from the DSE, on Sunday (September 21):
- The benchmark index DSEX fell by 68.08 points, closing at 5,381 points.
- The DSES (Shariah Index) dropped 19.24 points, settling at 1,158 points.
- The DS30 index, which tracks blue-chip stocks, declined by 23.70 points, ending at 2,083 points.
The day’s total turnover stood at BDT 621.49 crore, down from BDT 654.72 crore in the previous session.
A total of 396 companies’ shares and units were traded on the DSE. Among them:
- 39 companies saw price gains,
- 307 companies experienced declines,
- 50 companies remained unchanged.
Market analysts attribute the decline to continued investor caution amid ongoing economic uncertainties.
