Nazrul Rajbari Correspondent: A drive was carried out in Mashalia Beel, located in the Jamalpur Union of Baliakandi Upazila in Rajbari, resulting in the seizure of 1,500 meters of illegal China Duari nets valued at approximately 7 lakh taka. Subsequently, the authorities incinerated these nets publicly. During this operation, a fisherman was fined 5 thousand taka.
The operation took place in various parts of the beel from Saturday morning (August 16) until noon, with assistance from the Baliakandi Police Station and Ansar members. Over three hundred China Duari nets were confiscated during the drive. These nets were later destroyed by burning them publicly at the Shaheed Khushi Railway Field in Rajbari Municipality. The initiative was led by Senior Judicial Magistrate Md. Mohsin Hasan.
In conjunction with this, a campaign was also held in the areas surrounding Mashalia Beel to enhance public awareness regarding the protection of the beel’s biodiversity and fry.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Md. Mohsin Hasan stated, “We are conducting regular campaigns to safeguard the fish and biodiversity of Mashalia Beel, renowned for its fish pond. Such initiatives will persist to promote fish reproduction.”
Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Tanvir Ahmed, Baliakandi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Jamal Uddin, Ansar members, and officials from the Department of Fisheries were also present during the campaign.
The mobile court, which operated under the Climate Smart Agriculture and Water Management Project (part of the Department of Fisheries) for the financial year 2025-26, was executed.
