Manikganj Correspondent : Food Safety Awareness ToT Training Program for Primary School Teachers in Manikganj with the technical assistance of the JICA-STIRC Project and funding support from Lion Corporation.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), every year 420,000 people worldwide die from foodborne illnesses. To prevent these avoidable deaths and diseases, awareness at every level is essential. The knowledge and fundamental skills regarding food safety required to ensure safe and nutritious food must be disseminated widely. Speakers at the training emphasized these points during the program held for primary school teachers in Manikganj.
The day-long training was conducted on Monday at Dera Resort, Manikganj, with the participation of 33 government primary school teachers from across the district. The event was organized by the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA), District Office – Manikganj, with the overall cooperation of the Directorate of Primary Education, the Strengthening the Inspection, Regulatory and Coordinating (STIRC) Project of JICA and BFSA, and the financial support of Lion Corporation-a leading Japanese company in hygiene and health products. Officials from the STIRC Project provided hands-on training to the participants.
The training covered key topics as basic concepts of food safety for children, do’s and don’ts in ensuring food safety, basic hygiene practices and proper handwashing procedures.
The trained teachers will share the knowledge gained with their students in classrooms, thereby spreading food safety awareness at the grassroots level.
The inaugural session was graced by Mr. Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar, Member, Bangladesh Food Safety Authority, Ms. OKADA Akiko, Project Formulation Advisor (Agriculture and Rural Development), JICA Bangladesh Office, Ms. Salma Sultana Smrity, Brand Manager, Lion Corporation, Mr. Gokul Chandra Debnath, District Primary Education Officer and Md. Nur-E-Alam Sohag, Food Safety Officer, Manikganj.
