Tangail Correspondent: Police have arrested the main accused in the murder of businessman Masud Rana in Tangail, claiming that the suspect confessed to the killing during interrogation.
Speaking at a press conference at Tangail Sadar Police Station on Saturday, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Moktar Ashraf Uddin said the breakthrough came following a swift investigation conducted under the direct instructions of Tangail Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar. The operation was supervised by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Md. Adibul Islam, PPM-Service, and Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) H.M. Mahbub Rezwan Siddiqui.
According to the OC, Masud Rana was allegedly caught while having an extramarital relationship with a widow. Police said the woman’s son, Humayun, along with several accomplices, allegedly assaulted Masud with a hammer before strangling him to death.
Police have arrested five people in connection with the case: the widow, Hanufa Begum, 38, wife of the late Shawkat Ali of Kuijbari Paschimpara in Magra Union; her son Humayun; and three alleged accomplices—Nur Mohammad, Babu, and Aynal Haque.
The press briefing was also attended by Sadar Police Station Investigation Inspector Victor Banerjee, the investigating officer SI (Unarmed) Md. Anwar Hossain, and SI (Unarmed) Rafiul Karim.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and further legal action will be taken based on the findings.
