Eight officials from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) have been suspended for “disregarding directives from higher authorities and ignoring transfer orders.”
They were suspended through separate orders issued by Abdur Rahman Khan, the NBR chairman and secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD) within the Ministry of Finance.
The suspension orders indicate, “…Due to defiant actions such as openly tearing transfer orders in a blatant show of disrespect, and for aiding those who violated such orders, it has been decided to commence departmental proceedings against them.
“Consequently, in accordance with the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, they have been temporarily suspended.”
The officials who have been suspended include: Masuma Khatun, divisional representative (Joint Tax Commissioner), Tax Zone-2, Dhaka; Murad Ahmed, joint tax commissioner, Tax Zone-15, Dhaka; Mohammad Morshed Uddin Khan, joint tax commissioner, Tax Zone-Kushtia; Monalisa Shahreen Sushmita, joint tax commissioner, Tax Zone-Noakhali; Ashraful Alam Pradhan, joint tax commissioner, Tax Zone-Cox’s Bazar; Shihabul Islam, deputy tax commissioner, Tax Zone-Khulna; Nusrat Jahan Shomy, deputy tax commissioner, Tax Zone-Rangpur; and Towhid Hasan Shakil, deputy tax commissioner, Tax Zone-Cumilla.
Previously, five senior officials, including four NBR members, were forced into retirement. Furthermore, the Commissioner of Chattogram Customs House was also suspended.
