BGB Uncovers 4 Crore Taka Worth of Indian Drugs in a Year

Mushfiqur Sunamganj Correspondent: The BGB has implemented several measures such as intelligence surveillance, patrolling, and public awareness meetings to effectively combat smuggling, drug trafficking, and infiltration into India along the Sunamganj border area.

Lieutenant Colonel AKM Zakaria Qadir, the commander of Sunamganj Battalion 28 BGB, shared this information during a public awareness meeting with local residents at the Dolura BOP area of Salukabad union in Bishwambharpur upazila of the district at 11 am on Wednesday (June 25).

He reported that over the past year, drugs valued at 3 crore 94 lakh 59 thousand 375 taka have been confiscated. This includes 22 thousand 995 bottles of various types of Indian liquor, valued at 3 crore 44 lakh 92 thousand 500 taka; 700 bottles of Indian beer, worth 1 lakh 75 thousand taka; 21.5 kg of Indian marijuana valued at 75 thousand 250 taka; 1 lakh 10 thousand 510 packets of various types of Indian bidis, worth 46 lakh 96 thousand 675 taka; 44 pieces of Indian Yaba tablets, valued at 13 thousand 200 taka; and 4.5 liters of Bengali Chulai liquor, worth 6 thousand 750 taka.

Previously, Indian drugs worth 2 crore 96 lakh taka were seized within a year.

During the meeting, he emphasized that the local community is being educated on preventing all forms of smuggling, including drugs, illegal infiltration, unauthorized stone extraction by workers along the international border, avoiding cattle grazing on the zero line of the border, and combating the trafficking of women and children.
