Govt to buy refined fuel oil worth over Tk9,139cr

BM Desk : Through an international tender (quotation) process, the government will purchase refined fuel oil from three Singaporean corporations. This will cost 9,139 crore, 24 lakh, and 20,000 taka in total. To guarantee the nation’s fuel oil supply, this decision has been made for the six months of July through December of this year.

Under the direction of Financial Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed, the Advisory Committee on Government Procurement met today (June 4) in the Secretariat and approved the import of this fuel oil. Following the meeting, the Financial Advisor told reporters.
It has been discovered that three Singaporean companies will import this oil in three different packaging. Package D is Sinochem International Oil (Singapore) Pte Ltd, Singapore; Package B is PetroChina International Pte Ltd; and Package C is Vittal Asia Pte Ltd. This will cost 9,139 crore, 24 lakh, and 20,000 taka in total.
Prior to this, on January 2, the Advisory Council Committee authorized the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources’ proposal to import refined fuel oil on a G-to-G basis from state-owned enterprises in different nations for the January–June 2025 period. At the CCEA meeting on 2025, the plan to import refined fuel oil from Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) was given preliminary approval.

From January to June 2025, 1.425 million metric tons of refined fuel oil will be imported on a G-to-G basis from two companies in China and one each from Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, India, Malaysia, Thailand, and Oman to supply the nation’s fuel oil requirement.

This fuel oil costs 956.5 million 87 thousand 32 US dollars, which includes the reference price and premium. The amount is 114.79 billion 4 lakh taka in Bangladeshi currency. The committee examined and approved this idea when it was brought up by the Energy and Mineral Resources Department during the meeting.

250,000 metric tons of furnace oil, 30,000 metric tons of marine fuel, 75,000 metric tons of Mogas, 190,000 metric tons of Jet A-1, and 880,000 metric tons of gas oil will be bought out of this total.
