B Mirror Desk: Despite some obstacles, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has verified that the wage and allowance payments for ready-made garment (RMG) workers have been successfully completed in preparation for Eid-ul-Fitr.
Mohammad Anwar Hossain, the BGMEA Administrator, expressed gratitude to garment sector business owners for their commitment to making timely wage and bonus payments. He highlighted in his statement that these initiatives will enable employees to enjoy Eid with their loved ones in a celebratory atmosphere.
The government had ordered banks to disburse incentive funds sooner in response to BGMEA’s request, allowing factories to pay workers’ February and partial or full March wages as well as Eid bonuses without delay. Larger factories followed, small and medium ones first received finance, which helped avoid significant interruptions in wage payments.
The BGMEA kept a close eye on 445 factories where wage-related concerns were anticipated, and with their help, about 100 of those plants were able to settle payment disputes.
The following is the payment status as of March 27:
– February wages have been paid by 99.53% of factories.
– 83.20% of respondents have paid either fully or partially for March.
– The Eid bonus has been paid by 94.78% of the population.
– 0.47% of factories are currently processing February wages, with completion anticipated by March 29.
BGMEA ordered factories to provide holidays in stages starting March 26 to alleviate traffic congestion during the Eid festivities, with all employees anticipated to leave for their holidays by March 29.
