Record-breaking toll earnings on Padma Bridge

In the past 12 hours during the Eid pilgrimage, a total of 199,639,000 taka has been collected on the Padma Bridge. This amount was gathered from midnight on Friday, March 28, to noon on Saturday, March 29.

During this period, 18,127 vehicles utilized the bridge, with 12,953 crossing from the Mawa end and 5,174 from the Jajira end. Additionally, 3,866 motorcycles were recorded. This information was confirmed by Abu Sayeed, the Executive Engineer of the Padma Bridge Side Office, at approximately 12:15 pm on Saturday.

Previously, from midnight Thursday to midnight Friday, the Padma Bridge achieved its highest toll revenue since last Eid, collecting 425,413,000 taka over 24 hours with 39,637 vehicles crossing.

On April 9 of the previous year, a toll of 48,994,700 taka was collected in a single day.

Abu Sayeed, the Executive Engineer of the Padma Bridge Side Office, reported that since Friday morning, there has been a surge in vehicle traffic as people travel home for Eid. This increase has resulted in the fifth highest toll collection on the Padma Bridge. However, today, Saturday, the volume of passengers and vehicles is lower compared to yesterday. With the start of the nine-day public holiday, the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway, which serves as the main route to South Bengal, has seen a rise in long-distance vehicle traffic since Friday morning. Nonetheless, the influx of additional vehicles on this highway has decreased since Saturday morning. Many travelers are using passenger buses, private cars, and motorcycles to reach their relatives and celebrate Eid.
