Capital market stakeholders will hold a meeting with Chairman Khandkar Rashed Maksud regarding the current situation of the undesirable situation caused by officials and employees within the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), the regulatory agency of the capital market. The meeting will be held at 11 am today (March 9) at the Securities Commission in Agargaon, the capital.
DSE Public Relations Officer Deputy General Manager (AGM) Md. Shafiqur Rahman confirmed this information to the media on Saturday (March 8) night.
It is learned that representatives of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), DSE Brokers Association of Bangladesh (DBA), Bangladesh Merchant Bankers Association (BMBA), top brokerage houses, Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL) and Central Counterparty Bangladesh Limited (CCBL) will be present in this important meeting led by the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
It is learnt that Chairman Khandaker Rashed Maqsood, Commissioners Md. Mohsin Chowdhury, Md. Ali Akbar, Farzana Lalarukh will be present on behalf of BSEC in the meeting.
On Wednesday (March 5), BSEC officials and employees tried to block the Chairman and Commissioners and press for their demands. At one stage, they locked the main gate of the commission; turned off the CCTV cameras, Wi-Fi, elevators and cut off the electricity connection. Later, members of the law enforcement agencies including the army rescued them.
In the wake of this incident, Md. Ashiqur Rahman, the gunman (police member) of the organization’s chairman Khandaker Rashed Maksud, filed a case against 16 BSEC officials at the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in the capital at 5 pm that day.
The accused in the case are former BSEC Executive Director Saifur Rahman (58), Executive Directors Mahbubul Alam (57) and Rezaul Karim (54), Director Abu Raihan Md. Mohtasin Billa (51), Additional Director Nazrul Islam (50), Joint Director Rashedul Islam (48), Deputy Directors Bani Yamin (45), Al Islam (38), Shahidul Islam (42), and Touhidul Islam (32), Assistant Directors Johnny Hossain (31), Raihan Kabir (30), Sajjad Hossain (30) and Abdul Baten (32), Librarian Md. Selim Reza Bappi (31) and Personal Officer Abu Yusuf (29).
