After assuming responsibility in the interim government, there have been many positive changes in the situation of the country, said the chief adviser, Professor Dr. Muhammed Yunus.
In an interview recently given to BBC Bangla, the chief adviser said, “There have been many changes. The ruins from which I came now have a new look. We have made the economy easier, gained the trust of the country and abroad. We have been able to establish trust all over the world. No one can question it. Whichever country you say, they have put their trust in us and have done so in a big way. They say, we will do more for you than what we have done in the past. As we see that, a government is running beautifully.”
Dr. Nobel laureate. Muhammad Yunus said, “Every country has come and said, ‘We are supporting you.’ We will provide what you need. They have given incredible support.”
Describing the situation in the country at the time of taking charge, the Chief Advisor said, “I had no idea that I would suddenly become the head of the government, get responsibility, and be responsible for a country where everything has been destroyed. Nothing was working properly. Everything that was there had become a ruin. So my first attempt was to bring out the real face from that ruin. I was in that effort to make people’s daily lives easier.”
Dr. Muhammad Yunus also said, “Then slowly I started thinking about the future. My first thought was, we need a reform. Because the reason these things happened, the fascist government was able to continue for 16 years, we could not do anything; three elections were held, but the voters did not show up. How will we get out of this corruption, failure, and mismanagement, I mean we have to do institutional reforms. That is why I first decided to form some reform commissions.”
