The highest remittances came in December

December, which ended, saw the largest remittance in the history of the nation—$2.639 billion, or $2.64 billion. This is equivalent to 31,668 crore taka in local currency (based on a dollar being worth 120 taka).

Such a substantial amount of remittances have never been received in one month before. Prior to this, during the Corona period in July 2020, $2.59 billion in remittances were received. This time, in December 2024—the month of victory—the record was surpassed.

The sources of this information were the Bangladesh Bank.

The central bank estimates that remittances totaled roughly $2.64 billion for the entire month of December 2024, the last month of December. This represents a $648 million increase over the same time last year. $199.1 million was received in December of last year. Remittances received over $2 billion in the remaining 11 months, with the exception of July 2024.

Based on available data, remittances from Bangladeshis residing abroad totaled $13.777 billion during the first half of the current fiscal year 2024–25 (July–December). This represents a $2.977 billion increase over the same time frame in the preceding fiscal year. In the first half of the previous fiscal year, which ran from July to December, remittances totaled $1.8 billion.
