Mohsin Chowdhury is acting chairman of BSEC.Current commissioner Mohammad Mohsin Chowdhury has been appointed as the acting chairman of the capital market regulatory body Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC). This order signed by Farida Yasmin, Deputy Secretary of the Financial Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance has been issued by order of the President.
According to the order, Commissioner Mohammad Mohsin Chowdhury will perform routine duties as Acting Chairman of BSEC until the interim order is issued. This order issued in public interest will be implemented immediately.
The order also mentions that the order will be effective from the date (August 10) of submitting the resignation letter of BSEC Chairman Professor Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam.
When asked about this, Executive Director and Spokesperson of BSEC Mohammad Rezaul Karim told the media that the current commissioner Mohammad Mohsin Chowdhury has been given the responsibility as acting chairman of BSEC. He will be responsible for the day-to-day routine activities. However, he cannot take any policy decisions.
According to the notification regarding his appointment, Mohammad Mohsin Chowdhury, former Director General of PRL Employee Welfare Board, shall be appointed as Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Act, 1993 with effect from June 2, 2024 or for four years from the date of joining, as per Section-5(2) of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Act, 1993. Appointed to the post of Commissioner of Exchange Commission. His salary and other benefits will be determined by the agreement executed with the Government. This order issued in public interest will be effective immediately.
