President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Saturday called on members of the Lions Clubs to actively support the government’s development initiatives to advance the country. Speaking at the 37th Annual Convention of the ‘Lions Clubs International Multiple District-315 Bangladesh’ in Dhaka, President Shahabuddin highlighted the critical role that non-governmental organizations like Lions Clubs International can play.
“As a non-government service organization, Lions Clubs International can significantly contribute to environmental protection, poverty alleviation, combating corruption, and establishing the rule of law,” he stated.
President Shahabuddin praised the Lions Club for its responsible role in addressing social issues and promoting the welfare of people in Bangladesh, similar to its efforts worldwide. “You (Lions) can assist the poor and helpless, rehabilitate the destitute, provide educational materials, and organize voluntary blood donation drives, tree plantation campaigns, and other humanitarian activities,” he added.
The Lions Club, one of the oldest and largest voluntary organizations globally, boasts around 1.4 million members operating through 49,000 clubs across the world, dedicated to serving humanity.
The president also noted the government’s extensive programs aimed at socio-economic development. “Significant progress has been achieved in all sectors, including the economy, communication, education, health, and women’s empowerment,” he said.
