Intense forest fires have erupted in northern Israel, coinciding with rocket and drone strikes from neighboring Lebanon. The situation prompted the partial evacuation of the town of Kiryat Shmona.
Firefighting units, supported by various agencies, are actively working to contain the fires, according to Israeli police. The blazes have engulfed parts of the northeastern area bordering Lebanon, an area that has witnessed frequent exchanges of fire between the Israeli army and the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group.
In response to the crisis, the Israeli army has deployed reinforcements to assist overwhelmed firefighters. Six IDF reservist soldiers suffered minor injuries due to smoke inhalation and were taken to a hospital for treatment. Fortunately, no human lives are currently at risk as the forces have gained control over the fire locations.
Leaders from the army’s Northern Command arrived in Kiryat Shmona overnight, conducting a situational assessment in the affected sector. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office closely monitors the situation in coordination with the army.
The fires broke out on Monday following rocket attacks and the launch of drones from Lebanon. In retaliation, the Israeli army conducted air strikes against what it identified as Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon.
