Authorities have seized twelve abandoned aircraft at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Among these, eight belong to United Airways, two to Regent Airways, one to GMG Airlines, and one to Angel Airways. These aircraft have been lying abandoned at the airport for over a decade.

A recent notice issued by the Aerodromes and Facilitation Division of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) announced the seizure of the abandoned aircraft. The CAAB notice stated that despite several requests to the respective airlines to remove the aircraft, no action was taken, leading to the decision to seize them.

The notice further explained that the twelve aircraft and associated materials have been left unused and abandoned on the apron in front of the export cargo area of Shahjalal International Airport for a long time. Despite multiple requests to the relevant authorities to remove the aircraft, no action was taken by the companies. As a result, the presence of these abandoned aircraft is obstructing the parking of regular and irregular flights, loading of cargo, and movement of vehicles. The lack of parking space is also hindering the approval of new or irregular cargo flights, disrupting the airport’s operational activities, overall aviation operations, and the country’s export development efforts.
