The government has initiated a project to generate solar power from the rooftops of 6,544 institutions under the Local Government Division.

Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, announced this information during a press conference at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

The State Minister stated that Tk 370 crore has been allocated for the implementation of this program, with a target to generate approximately 300 megawatts of electricity.

Mir Shahe Alam said, “Solar panels will be installed on the rooftops of a total of 6,544 institutions under the local government —including Zila Parishads, municipalities, Union Parishads, LGED offices, WASA, the Department of Public Health Engineering, as well as markets (haat-bazaars) and growth centers across the country.”

He added, “We are setting out to generate electricity through solar panels on the rooftops of these institutions. Instructions regarding this have already been issued through separate letters.”

The State Minister also informed the press conference that the target is to implement this program by January 27.
