BM Desk: In the nearly eight months of the interim government, there are already over 20,000 additional BO accounts (beneficial owners accounts) of domestic investors in the nation’s stock market. The Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL) has disclosed this information.
According to CDBL data, there are currently 1,266,018 BO accounts in the name of male investors in the stock market. At the time of the fall of the Hasina government, this number was 1,248,434. This shows that the accounts of male investors have increased by 17,584 after the fall of the Hasina government.
On the other hand, the BO accounts of female investors currently stand at 4,04,386. At the time of the fall of the Hasina government, this number was 4,02,472. This shows that the BO accounts of female investors have increased by 1,914 after the fall of the Hasina government.
CDBL said that after the fall of the Hasina government, the BO accounts of companies have also increased along with the number of female and male investors. Currently, there are 17,663 company BO accounts. When the Hasina government fell, this number was 17,152. Accordingly, the company BO accounts have increased by 511.
Currently, among the BO accounts held by investors, 1,205,671 are BO accounts in single names, which were 1,183,677 when the Hasina government fell. After the fall of the Hasina government, the number of BO accounts in single names has increased by 21,994.
However, although the number of domestic investors in the stock market has increased during the Hasina government’s tenure, the number of foreign and expatriate investors has decreased. The tendency of them to leave the stock market is still being observed. In addition, the recession situation in the stock market is still continuing.
It should be mentioned that each investor’s BO account is their registered account for stock market investments through a brokerage house or merchant bank. Investors use the BO account to conduct stock market transactions, and stock market activities are impossible without the BO account. Information on the BO account must be managed by CDBL.
