15 of 17 Projects approved at ECNEC meeting

B Mirror Report : The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 15 out of 17 projects placed before its latest meeting, State Minister for Finance and Planning Jonaid Saki said on Sunday.

He made the announcement while briefing journalists after the ECNEC meeting held at the Bangladesh Secretariat. The meeting, the 10th of the 2025–26 fiscal year, was chaired by Prime Minister Tareq Rahman.

According to Saki, a total of 17 projects were presented at the meeting, of which 15 were discussed and most received approval. However, several projects were approved with conditions and subject to further observations and revisions.

He noted that the government has decided to review both ongoing and previously proposed projects, as some have reached a stage where their necessity is being reconsidered.

“The Prime Minister’s directive regarding projects is very clear,” Saki said. “We must ensure cost-efficiency and carefully examine whether expenditures are justified. Each project must be evaluated in terms of its overall impact on people’s lives and its alignment with the government’s development plans and election manifesto.”

The meeting was attended by Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir; Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury; Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed; Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam, along with ECNEC members, secretaries, and senior officials from relevant ministries.
