10 factories shut in Gazipur

Because of the workers’ movement, ten factories in the Tongi and Mouchak neighborhoods of Kaliakoir, Gazipur, have been given a holiday.

At around 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, AKM Jahirul Islam, the Superintendent of Police for Gazipur Industrial Police-2, verified this information to Sangbadmodhyam.

He said that so far, 10 factories in Tongi and Gazipur have been declared holiday. It is also believed that this number may increase further.

Earlier, workers blocked the highway in the Tongi area of the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway since morning demanding arrears of salaries. Similar incidents occurred in some other places, resulting in chaos on the highway.

Gazipur Industrial Police-2 Inspector Ismail Hossain told Kaler Kantho that the blockade has been lifted. Traffic is now normal.

The workers claim that they have arrears of two months’ salary, which was supposed to be paid. But they were forced to block the road when the factory authorities did not pay the salaries.
