10 banks of the country are bankrupt: Governor Mansoor.

Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansoor said, 10 banks of the country are already bankrupt, we do not want any bank to be closed. We will give utmost importance to the interests of the customers.

The governor said these things in a press briefing with journalists on Sunday (September 8) afternoon.

Ahsan H. Mansoor said, ‘We will try to turn around the bankrupt banks, we will try that. I will give technical, advisory and liquidity facilities to the banks.

The governor said that no matter the condition of the bank, there will be no loss to the customers. Therefore, the amount of deposit protection insurance has been increased from Tk 1 lakh to Tk 2 lakh. Interests of 95 percent customers of the country’s banking sector will be ensured.

He also said that the account of any business organization has not been frozen by the central bank. Be it any business organization – their operations will continue as usual. Salaries will be given to their officers and employees. Some have spread misinformation about these issues, perhaps some banks themselves have been over-enthusiastic.

The governor said that Bangladesh Bank has funds of 25 thousand crore taka, which are not being distributed. Bank’s problems are asked to be given in written form. These funds will be distributed to the SME sector in a flexible manner.
