Zubaidur Rahman is the new chairman of Islami Bank

Islami Bank Bangladesh has elected Professor Dr. M. Zubaidur Rahman as its chairman. On Wednesday, July 23, he was chosen to serve as chairman of the bank’s board meeting.

He has previously worked for Islami Bank as an independent director.

In 1975, Zubaidur Rahman began working at Dhaka University as a lecturer in the finance department. He later graduated from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom with a PhD in finance. He has held positions as a visiting scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA; a visiting professor at the University of Bocconi in Italy; a professor at the State University of New York; and a visiting scholar at Moscow State University in Russia. In Dhaka, he serves as the first vice-chancellor of ZNRF University of Management Sciences (ZUMS).

Professor Rahman, a senior official at the World Bank, serves as an experienced independent advisor to numerous companies, governments, and international organizations in developing and emerging economies. He specializes in strategic consulting and change management processes. His expertise encompasses financial accountability and corporate governance management. His efforts have concentrated on activities aimed at building institutional capacity, through which he has assisted World Bank member countries in enhancing the foundations of financial transparency, accountability, and governance. His initiatives have resulted in a long-term positive impact across many of the involved countries.

During his tenure at the World Bank, Professor Rahman spearheaded the design and execution of a program known as the ‘Standards and Codes Initiative’ to fortify the international financial architecture. As part of this program, he engaged in policy discussions with high-ranking government officials in various nations, established partnerships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, and played a pivotal role in conducting institutional capacity building activities.

Professor Rahman was instrumental in the founding and administration of the global consulting firm Deloitte in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Russia. He has played an important role in these nations’ transition to market economy.
