B Mirror Desk : BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir asserted that for the previous 15 years, we haven’t even had the opportunity to speak. Processions and meetings have been impossible. Our leaders and activists have been imprisoned and tortured as a result of false charges. The Awami League government has stolen our right to vote. We’re working to restore that right right now.
He added, “With the help of the public and students, we have established a new interim government.” Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel laureate, has been selected to lead that government. Under his direction, we think an election will be held that is free, fair, and acceptable.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir spoke at a BNP mass communication program at Boro Khochabari High School in Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila on Monday evening. He described the torture inflicted on them over the past 15 years, including the cutting off of their brother’s hands and the imprisonment of many people. He also criticized the Awami League government for taking away their voting rights and seizing power by force.
Addressing the women present, he stated, “Dear mothers and sisters, you continue to suffer from insecurity.” There is a lack of security while walking down the street. The problem that arose during Sheikh Hasina’s government still continues. “This can only be changed by an elected administration.”
The BNP Secretary General stated, “The Awami League has looted our money and smuggled it abroad.” 26 lakh crore takas have been smuggled. As a result, the country’s economy is currently in unstable condition. However, even if they put their money in a bank, the country’s citizens are not safe.
He stated, “Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League leaders do not feel safe even in the country today. They did something wrong, and this is the result today.”
The BNP promised, “We do not believe in the politics of vengeance.” After the new government is formed, we shall use love and compassion to construct a peaceful nation. We will provide protection for everyone, regardless of religion or caste.
He accused the Awami League of torturing scholars and madrasa students, and claimed that madrasa students were killed at Shapla Chattar, but the murder has yet to be tried.
Later in the afternoon, during a view-exchange meeting in Jagannathpur Union’s Sheikh Bazar region, Mirza Fakhrul asked, “Now that there is no MP, where will the regular people go if there is a problem? Elections and political reforms are so urgently required. If the government truly intends to hold elections, a clear path must be given.”
He stated that the residents of Thakurgaon have faced a lack of development for the past 15 years. If elected, we will prioritize job creation, fair compensation for farmers, and the protection of workers’ rights, with a particular focus on youth employment.
The BNP Secretary General expressed confidence in conducting a successful election this time, stating, ‘I will be able to cast my vote. For the last 15 years, we have been unable to freely express our views and participate in voting.’ Present at the event were District BNP General Secretary Mirza Faisal Amin, Vice President Obaidullah Masud, Finance Secretary Shariful Islam, Sadar Upazila BNP President Md. Abdul Hamid, BNP Jagannathpur UP Chairman Mostafizur Rahman Liton, former Nargun UP Chairman Poygam Ali, along with other leaders and activists from affiliated organizations.
Ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliament election, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has initiated mass communication and organizational efforts in his constituency. He is currently on a three-day tour, engaging with the community in Thakurgaon Jagannathpur Union, and plans to continue mass communication in Jamalpur and Chila Rong Unions on Tuesday, before returning to Dhaka after meetings in Debipur and Barogaon Unions on Wednesday.
