WB Offers $2.8B for 10 Projects, Seeks Swift Approval Before Polls

The World Bank has proposed a financing package worth $2.8 billion for 10 development projects in Bangladesh, urging the government to accelerate the approval process ahead of the upcoming national elections scheduled for February 2026.

The proposed projects span sectors such as infrastructure, education, climate resilience, and social protection, aiming to bolster Bangladesh’s long-term development goals. Officials from the World Bank emphasized the importance of timely implementation to ensure continuity and effective use of resources.

The Ministry of Finance has welcomed the offer, noting that efforts are being made to expedite internal procedures. However, given the approaching election timeline, officials acknowledge that time is limited and bureaucratic processes may face additional scrutiny.

Analysts view the World Bank’s proposal as a strong show of confidence in Bangladesh’s economic stability, despite global uncertainties and domestic challenges.

The government is expected to finalize decisions on the proposed projects in the coming weeks.
