Aftab Feni Correspondent: Due to the heavy rains and landslides coming down from upstream India, the dam of the Fulgazi Muhuri River in Feni broke, flooding houses and low-lying areas in several villages including Uttar Bariya, Dakshin Bariya, Bijoypur, Basantapur, Bashikhpur. Shops in the Fulgazi Bazaar were also damaged by rising water.
However, due to the lack of heavy rains in the last two days, the river water has started to recede and the water in the flooded villages is slowly starting to recede from the low-lying areas.
Locals said the water level has risen and fallen, and we are doomed because there is no sustainable dam. We want a sustainable dam.
Feni Water Development Board Executive Engineer Akter Hossain Majumder said that the river water is now flowing below the danger level. Repair work is underway at the rupture site using geo bags.
Abdul Latif, Additional Chief Engineer of the Water Development Board Eastern Comilla, said that a project is being undertaken to build a sustainable dam, which, if implemented, is expected to solve the problem.
