US Ambassador Visits IBFB Founding President’s Residence

The newly appointed United States Ambassador to Bangladesh, Mr. Brent T. Christensen, paid his first visit to Chattogram today. Among his various engagements, he visited the residence of Founding President of International Business Forum of Bangladesh (IBFB), former Mayor of Chattogram City and former Member of Parliament, Mr. Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury, at 7:00 PM.

During the visit, discussions were held on various issues of mutual interest between the two countries. Mr. Chowdhury urged the Ambassador to encourage increased US investment in Bangladesh considering the current national situation and requested special attention to reducing export duties on the ready-made garments sector. He also strongly appealed to the Ambassador to play an active role in resolving the Rohingya crisis and to ensure the continuation of US assistance.

In the discussion, Mr. Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury particularly highlighted the importance of Chattogram from Bangladesh’s economic perspective. The US Ambassador expressed his intention to work jointly with the IBFB in the future.

Others present at the meeting with the US Ambassador included Commercial Councillor Paul Stru, Head of the Economic Section Mike Penel, Political Specialist Firoz Ahmed, and Economic Specialist Asif Ahmed. Later, the US Ambassador also attended a dinner hosted at the residence of Mr. Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury.
