UN will support Bangladesh in important reforms: Antonio Guterres

BM Desk : The UN will always support Bangladesh’s continuous reforms and change, according to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 14, he posted this remark on social media X.

He wrote in the X message: “I express my gratitude to the people of Bangladesh and Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, for their cordial welcome. During this crucial period of reform and change in Bangladesh, the UN will always support you in creating a sustainable and just future.”

Earlier, Guterres arrived in Dhaka yesterday, Thursday. Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Towhid Hossain welcomed him at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. This Friday morning, Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Towhid Hossain and then the Chief Advisor’s High Representative for Rohingya Affairs Khalilur Rahman paid a courtesy call on the UN Secretary-General.

Then, he reached the Chief Advisor’s office around 10 am. There, Dr. His meeting with Yunus was held. After the meeting, they left for Cox’s Bazar. There, Antonio Guterres and Dr. Muhammad Yunus will participate in various activities in the Rohingya camps. They will participate in Iftar with about one lakh Rohingyas.

Meanwhile, tomorrow, the UN Secretary-General will meet with civil society and discuss with the National Consensus Commission. Incidentally, former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Guterres is also an experienced diplomat. Before being appointed as the UN Secretary-General, he was the head of the UN Refugee Agency. During that time, he also visited the Rohingya camps.
