UCB, Mastercard & GP unveiled co-branded sticker payment card

B.Mirror Desk: United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB), Mastercard and Grameenphone today unveiled a co-branded sticker payment card, offering consumers in Bangladesh a simple and convenient way to make contactless payments while enjoying cashback, rewards and exclusive lifestyle benefits. The event was attended by H.E. Brent T. Christensen, U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh, as the chief guest. Also present were Sharif Zahir, Chairman, UCB; Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid, Chief Executive Officer, UCB; Gautam Aggarwal, Division President, India & South Asia, Mastercard; Sandun Hapugoda, Country Manager, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bangladesh, Bhutan & Nepal, Mastercard; Ms. Zakia Sultana, Country Manager, Bangladesh, Mastercard; Solaiman Alam, Chief Product Officer, Grameenphone, along with senior executives from the three organizations. The prepaid sticker card can be attached to a smartphone or another suitable item, allowing cardholders to make payments by simply tapping it on a contactless-enabled point-of-sale (POS) terminal. This eliminates the need to carry a conventional payment card, making everyday transactions quicker and easier.
The card combines UCB’s banking services, Mastercard’s secure payment technology and Grameenphone’s MyGP digital ecosystem, enabling cardholders to enjoy seamless payments alongside a range of other benefits.
Cardholders can avail 10% cashback on eligible OTT and bundle purchases from MyGP, MyGP Shop transactions and learning courses, along with 3% cashback on eligible GPFI subscriptions. They can also claim BDT 50 cashback on eligible roaming pack purchases, exclusive offers at GPStar and Mastercard partner merchants, and accelerated MyGP Points on qualifying transactions. All cashback offers are subject to the applicable terms and conditions.
Sharif Zahir, Chairman, UCB, said, “This collaboration reflects UCB’s commitment to delivering innovative financial solutions that meet the evolving needs of customers. By bringing together banking, connectivity and global payments technology, the sticker payment card provides a seamless, convenient and rewarding way to make everyday digital payments.”
Gautam Aggarwal, Division President, India & South Asia, Mastercard, said, “The future of payments lies in making transactions effortless, secure and seamlessly integrated into consumers’ daily routines. Through this collaboration, we are introducing an innovative form factor that expands consumer choice while supporting the continued growth of contactless payments in Bangladesh.”
The card comes with a first-year fee waiver, while the annual fee will be waived for cardholders spending BDT 100,000 or more in a calendar year. Solaiman Alam, Chief Product Officer, Grameenphone, said, “As consumers increasingly embrace digital lifestyles, they are looking for payment solutions that are simple, convenient and relevant to their everyday needs. The sticker payment card brings payments closer to the digital experiences our customers already use through MyGP. This association reflects our commitment to creating greater value for people through digital innovation.” The introduction of co-branded sticker payment card reflects the shared commitment of UCB, Mastercard and Grameenphone to accelerating the adoption of contactless payments and making digital transactions more secure and rewarding for consumers across Bangladesh.
