Tangil Correspondent: Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a woman and the theft of valuables in Tangail’s Sadar upazila, claiming to have solved the case through investigation and intelligence.
At a press briefing held at Tangail Sadar Police Station on Tuesday, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) H.M. Mahbub Rezwan Siddiqui said the prime suspect, Mosharaf Hossain, the muezzin of the local Chourasta Jame Mosque, was arrested over the killing of Nazma Alam Naju, 51, in the Bishwas Betka area.
According to the police, preliminary investigation found that Mosharaf had been under financial pressure due to longstanding debt. As a tenant living in the same house as the victim, he allegedly took advantage of his familiarity with the premises to enter her room with the intention of stealing gold jewellery and other valuables.
Police said that when the victim was about to discover the theft, the suspect allegedly killed her before fleeing the scene. Investigators later identified and arrested him using forensic evidence, technological data and intelligence inputs.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly provided important information that helped police recover evidence used in the crime as well as the stolen gold jewellery.
Police also arrested a second suspect, Santosh Karmakar, 45, on charges of purchasing the stolen gold ornaments. He was detained on June 29 in front of the Brothers Jewellers workshop near Khalpar under Tangail Sadar Police Station.
The investigation into the case is continuing, police said.
