BM Desk : Over the last nine months, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has recovered Tk994 crore through its intelligence and field offices’ anti-tax evasion campaigns.
According to NBR data, field offices and related intelligence agencies carried out 16,572 operations in two wings, Customs and Income Tax, between September 2024 and May 2025.
According to a press release today (June 24), these drives discovered Tk6,246 crore in income evasion.
Various Customs Houses conducted 2,215 operations during this time, discovering Tk 183 crore in income that had been avoided; all of this money has now been recovered.
In the meantime, 6,803 operations by the Customs, Excise, and VAT Commission rates uncovered Tk513 crore, of which Tk89 crore had already been recovered.
Through 231 drives, the Directorate of VAT Audit, Intelligence, and Investigation, Dhaka (VAT Intelligence) discovered Tk1,639 crore in evasion and recovered Tk240 crore.
During the same time frame, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate retrieved Tk73 crore from its drives.
A separate 181 operations were carried out by the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC), which discovered Tk 366 crore in income tax evasion and collected Tk 194 crore.After conducting 170 operations, the Income Tax Intelligence and Investigation Unit discovered Tk1,874 crore in evasion, of which Tk110 crore was collected.
Furthermore, a total of 6,972 drives were carried out by 41 tax zones nationwide, resulting in the recovery of Tk105 crore and the discovery of Tk1,588 crore in evasion.
According to the NBR press release, these initiatives are a part of its continuous plan to reduce tax evasion and improve enforcement in order to reach national revenue targets and aid in the nation’s development objectives.
