Three Garment Factories Awarded Eco-Friendly Certificates

BM Desk : The globally renowned “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” (LEAD) certification as environmentally friendly green factories or “green factories” has been awarded to three further garment manufacturers in Bangladesh.

Through environmentally friendly production and building construction in accordance with their requirements, the three companies have obtained this eco-friendly factory designation from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). A factory receives the “LEAD Platinum” certificate if it meets more than 80 of the 100 marks required to obtain the certificate; the “LEAD Gold” certificate is given if it meets 60–79; the “LEAD Silver” certificate is given if it meets 50–59; and the “LEAD Certified” certificate is given if it meets 40–49.

There are currently 253 LEED-accredited ready-made clothing factories in the nation, including these recently recognized factories from the US Green Building Council. Of these, four LEED certified certificates, 105 Platinum, 132 Gold, and 12 Silver have been awarded.
Comfort Rainbow Dyeing and Finishing, one of the three recently expanded factories, acquired 75 points toward LEED Gold certification.

Saiham Cotton Mills Limited’s Units 1 and 2 have both earned LEED Silver certification. 58 points have been earned by each unit. Currently, Bangladesh is home to 68 out of 100 and 9 out of 10 of the world’s top-rated LEED factories, which further supports the nation’s green industry movement.

A facility that reduces adverse environmental effects and guarantees the effective use of natural resources throughout the building, operation, and maintenance phases is known as a “green factory” or eco-friendly factory. Particular attention is paid to preserving energy and water, lowering air pollution, employing sustainable materials, enhancing waste management, and making sure that workers have a safe and healthy workplace when building such factories. Only when a factory complies with these eco-friendly guidelines and requirements is it awarded an eco-friendly accreditation.
