The proposal to increase the price of fuel oil is suspended.

The interim government has decided to suspend the proposal to increase the price of fuel oil in the country This decision was announced in a circular signed by Mohammad Shafiullah, Information and Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources on Sunday (August 18).

According to the notification, adverse articles have been published in national dailies in view of the increase in fuel prices by the government under Section 34(a) of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (Amendment) Act, 2023, and this has caused or may cause public outrage.

In this situation, it has been decided that consideration of price increase proposal under that section will be suspended for the time being.

The energy advisor said that many people have written about the special provision of electricity law of 2010. Therefore, today I have decided that the matters currently pending under the Act of 2010, shall remain in abeyance for the time being. However, the earlier agreements will remain in force. We will review the law and then make a decision. It’s not just about me. This is a matter for the Advisory Council.

the advisor also said, it has also been decided that both the departments will give a cost-effective plan. Now the revenue will not increase suddenly. The situation has been stagnant for so long, revenue collection has been disrupted. All unnecessary expenses and unnecessary projects should be eliminated.
