B Mirror Desk : The National Board of Revenue (NBR) was dissolved at midnight, leading to the establishment of two new departments: Revenue Policy and Revenue Management. An ordinance was issued by the interim government shortly after midnight on Monday.
This ordinance, titled ‘Revenue Policy and Revenue Management Ordinance’, was released despite the objections raised by BCS Income Tax and Customs cadre officers. The ordinance, dated May 12, has introduced only slight modifications to the responsibilities of the Revenue Policy Department. Administrative roles within the Revenue Management Department will be held by both administration cadre officers and those from the income tax and customs sectors.
According to the ordinance, the Revenue Policy Department is tasked with overseeing the enforcement of tax laws and monitoring tax collection, while the Revenue Management Department will focus primarily on revenue collection.
