In a swift response to ensure consumer safety, a mobile court in Tangail fined a butcher Tk 20,000 (around $240 USD) for selling rotten meat on Thursday morning.
The mobile court operation, led by Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Zannatul Nayeem Binte Aziz, targeted the Battala City Bazar in the Akur Thakur neighborhood of Tangail Sadar. Upholding public health standards, the court had the support of Dr. Hira Mia, Tangail Sadar Upazila Animal Resources Officer. Other officials present during the operation included Dr. Abu Saim Al Salauddin (Veterinary Surgeon), Slaughterhouse Inspector Sohel Raju, and Upazila Sanitary Inspector.
Magistrate Aziz, in a statement to the Business Mirror representative, revealed that the mobile court was deployed at the Asha meat warehouse upon receiving a tip-off from the slaughterhouse inspector. This swift action demonstrates the collaborative efforts of local authorities to identify and address potential health hazards within the market.
The offender, identified as Md. Nurnabi, a 32-year-old resident of Collegepara, Tangail, faced the penalty for selling meat deemed unfit for consumption. This incident serves as a strong reminder to vendors of the importance of adhering to food safety regulations and prioritizing consumer well-being. The mobile court’s action sends a clear message that authorities will not tolerate the sale of potentially harmful products.
