B Mirror Report: Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that rather than making advance comments, his priority will be to focus on work. “We want to talk less and work more,” he said.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after assuming office at the Planning Ministry in the capital on Sunday (22 February). He is also in charge of the Finance Ministry.
Amir Khasru made it clear that instead of making immediate public statements, his approach would be based on taking effective measures and carefully reviewing relevant matters.
He said that having just taken office, he needs some time to review ongoing programmes and hold discussions with concerned officials before presenting detailed plans.
“I have just joined. There is no benefit in speaking too much in advance. Let me settle in, assess the situation and discuss with the relevant officials. Everything will be informed in due course,” he said.
The minister noted that since he assumed office only a few days ago, he is still in the process of understanding the scope of the ministry’s work, existing commitments and institutional challenges.
He emphasized the importance of making data-driven and evidence-based decisions rather than speculative remarks.
When asked about long-term goals such as transforming Bangladesh into a trillion-dollar economy by 2034, he did not provide any specific details immediately. He said meaningful policy directions would be possible only after a comprehensive assessment.
The Planning Minister assured that transparency and timely communication would be maintained once the review process is completed.
“There is no reason to be anxious. Everything will be communicated at the appropriate time. It is important to understand the situation first and then speak based on facts,” he said.
Regarding cost escalations or delays in implementing development projects, he said these issues are already part of administrative processes and would be addressed through institutional mechanisms.
“It has only been two days since I took responsibility. These matters require careful review and discussion. After examining everything, we will speak more meaningfully,” he added.
Warning that comments made without adequate evaluation could create incomplete or misleading perceptions, he said he is committed to making informed statements after internal assessments.
“I do not think it is right to say something just for the sake of saying it. What is needed is objective and meaningful communication,” the minister added.
