The Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh, Reto Renggli, has lauded the country’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector for its notable progress in sustainable development, highlighting its role as a model for combining business success with sustainability goals.
Ambassador Renggli made the remarks on Thursday after visiting Four H Yarn Dyeing, a green factory under Team Group, located near Dhaka.
“I’m very pleased to visit this factory. It’s an extremely modern facility, and I’m truly impressed by what I’ve seen,” the ambassador stated. “As the factory produces for a Swiss brand, understanding the working environment here is especially important to me.”
He commended the improvements in worker health, safety, and workplace conditions, urging continued efforts to strengthen these areas. Ambassador Renggli also praised the company’s ambitious sustainable development goals set for 2030, calling it “an excellent example of how business success and sustainable development can go hand in hand.”
Improving Global Perception of the Industry
During the visit, Abdullah Hil Nakib, Deputy Managing Director of Team Group, said that a key objective of the ambassador’s tour was to challenge outdated and negative perceptions of Bangladesh’s garment sector in international markets.
“We wanted to present the real picture — from workplace conditions and worker welfare to product quality,” Nakib explained. “The ambassador was pleased with what he saw and has asked for permission to share his experience on social media, which will help boost Bangladesh’s brand image globally.”
Opportunities Amid Global Shifts
On the topic of U.S. tariff hikes on Chinese imports, Nakib noted that while Chinese suppliers may shift their focus to the European market, which could pose competition, the gradual shift of European buyers away from China presents opportunities for Bangladesh.
Highlighting the company’s strength in building long-term client relationships, Nakib added:
“None of our clients have left us due to issues with service, delivery, or quality. Our strength lies in delivering high-quality products on time.”
Context: Bangladesh’s Push for Sustainable Manufacturing
Bangladesh’s RMG sector — the country’s largest export earner — has been investing heavily in green and compliant manufacturing practices in recent years. With a growing number of LEED-certified green factories, the sector is positioning itself as a global leader in sustainable textile production.
The Swiss ambassador’s visit and positive feedback serve as validation of the sector’s efforts and reflect growing international recognition of Bangladesh’s commitment to responsible industrial practices.
