Nurul Sylhet Correspondent : The colorful festival organized to mark the inauguration of the Sylhet Online Press Club turned into a huge gathering of the well-wishers. The event, held on Tuesday afternoon at the club’s own gathering “Dr. Ragib Ali Gathering”, was attended by the vice-chancellor of the university, high-ranking officials of the administration, leaders of the political, social, cultural arenas, journalists and people from different classes and professions.
The program was presided over by the club’s president, Mohammad Golzar Ahmed Helal, and moderated by the general secretary, M. Saifur Rahman Talukder.
The chief guest was the Vice Chancellor of Sylhet Agricultural University, Professor Dr. Md. Alimul Islam. Additional IGP and Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Rezaul Karim (PPM Services), Superintendent of Police Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Nasir Uddin, District Administration representative Padmason Singha, Sylhet Range DIG representative Md. Aminul Islam, DC (North) Sajeeb Khan, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Janmejoy Dutta and Assistant Director of Information Office Rafiqul Islam spoke as special guests.
From the political arena
The founding anniversary ceremony was attended by BNP Chairperson’s Advisor Dr. Enamul Haque Chowdhury, Sylhet Metropolitan BNP Acting President Rezaul Hasan Kayes Lodi, General Secretary Imdad Hossain Chowdhury, District BNP Acting General Secretary Ishtiaq Siddiqui, leaders of various political parties including Jamaat, NCP, Islami Andolan, Gana Adhikar Parishad.

Present at the time were lawyer leader Emad Ullah Shahidullah Shahin, Sylhet District Press Club General Secretary Md. Nasir Uddin, agricultural expert Khasru Mohammad Salahuddin, senior journalist Aftab Chowdhury, Barrister Mostakim Raja Chowdhury and others.
Sylhet Range DIG Mushfequr Rahman sent a cake as a gift to the members of the Press Club. Police and political party leaders greeted the leaders of the Press Club with flowers. Publisher of the Daily Sylhet Mirror and BNP leader Faisal Ahmed Chowdhury gifted a computer to the club.

The club’s senior vice president Abdul Muhith Didar, vice president Zahirul Islam Mishu, deputy general secretary Masud Ahmed Rony, treasurer Towhidul Islam, information and technology secretary Afroz Khan, sports and culture secretary Md. Kamal Ahmed, publicity and publication secretary Lokman Ahmed and executive members Shahidur Rahman Jewel and Md. Abdul Hasib welcomed the guests.

Theme and purpose
The theme of this year’s anniversary was ‘The victory of online worldwide, no discrimination in the journey of progress’. In their speeches, the guests highlighted the positive aspects of the progress of online media, independent journalism and the use of information technology and wished the Press Club continued success.
