Stocks Start Week on Flat Note Amid Profit-Taking

B Mirror Report: Stocks opened the week largely flat, as investors booked profits following recent price gains, generating sustained selling pressure in major blue-chip stocks.

The DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), fell 5.3 points to close at 5,229, down from 5,234 points in the previous session.

The market remained range-bound, with trading activity on both sides, but modest selling pressure pushed the broad index into negative territory as investors remained cautious, awaiting greater political clarity ahead of the national election.

Meanwhile, market turnover dropped 18.5 percent to Tk 4.8 billion, compared to Tk 5.9 billion in the prior session.

On the sectoral front, Pharma stocks led turnover with 14.7 percent, followed by Textile (13.6%) and Bank (13.6%) sectors. Most sectors posted negative returns, with Engineering (-1.0%), Jute (-1.0%), and Tannery (-0.7%) recording the largest declines.

Out of 397 stocks traded, 161 advanced, 158 declined, and 78 remained unchanged.

Meanwhile, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended lower. The Selective Categories Index (CSCX) fell 44 points, while the All Share Price Index (CASPI) dropped 48.4 points.
