Stocks rebound after three-day slide as mutual funds lead rally

Bangladesh’s stock market rebounded on Monday after three consecutive sessions of losses, with both the benchmark index and turnover rising as mutual funds spearheaded a broad-based rally.

On the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), prices of 299 stocks and mutual fund units advanced, while 53 declined and 39 remained unchanged. Among mutual funds, 31 gained, three were unchanged, and none posted losses.

The DSEX benchmark index rose 55.08 points to close at 5,839.19. The DS30 Index gained 15.82 points to 2,201.54, while the DSES Shariah Index advanced 11.85 points to 1,188.52.

Market analysts said buying interest in mutual funds remained strong throughout the trading session, helping lift sentiment across other sectors and driving the market higher.

Turnover on the DSE increased to BDT 872.08 crore, up from BDT 780.63 crore in the previous session, an increase of BDT 91.45 crore.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended higher, with the CASPI index climbing 125 points. Of the 232 issues traded, 145 advanced, 62 declined, and 25 remained unchanged. Turnover on the CSE rose to BDT 16.66 crore, compared with BDT 5.15 crore in the previous trading session.
