Bangladesh’s stock market posted a strong gain on Saturday ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha holidays, with both prices and turnover rising significantly on the country’s two bourses.
Trading took place on May 23 under a special government directive, and the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) witnessed broad-based buying pressure from the opening bell. The upward trend continued throughout the session.
Out of 394 issues traded on the DSE, prices of 217 advanced, 117 declined, while 60 remained unchanged.
The benchmark DSEX index rose by 64 points to close at 5,328 points. The DSES Shariah index gained 8 points to 1,077, while the DS-30 index climbed 35 points to 2,030.
Turnover on the DSE also increased notably. Total transactions stood at Tk 902.16 crore, up from Tk 867.48 crore in the previous session, marking an increase of Tk 34.68 crore.
Meanwhile, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended higher. The CASPI index advanced 161 points to 14,861 points.
Among the 194 issues traded on the CSE, 102 gained, 67 lost ground, and 25 remained unchanged. Total turnover at the port city bourse stood at Tk 24.39 crore, compared with Tk 30.39 crore in the previous trading session.
