Stocks open week lower as index’s and turnover fall

B Mirror Report: The Bangladesh stock market started the week on a downward note as both key indices and trading activity declined on Sunday (May 3).

On the main bourse, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), most listed shares and units fell in price, pushing the benchmark index lower. The DSEX dropped by 21 points to close at 5,265, while the Shariah index (DSES) slipped by 2 points to 1,050. In contrast, the DSE-30 index saw a marginal gain of 2 points, ending at 2,019.

Market participation showed mixed sentiment. Out of 396 traded companies, 165 advanced, 180 declined, and 51 remained unchanged.

Total turnover on the DSE also fell to Tk 82.93 billion, down from Tk 86.40 billion in the previous session, reflecting a decline of Tk 3.47 billion.

A similar trend was observed in the broader market. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw its overall index, CASPI, drop by 18 points to 14,788. Of the 200 traded issues, 96 advanced, 74 declined, and 30 remained unchanged.

Turnover on the CSE also decreased to Tk 4.13 billion from Tk 4.83 billion in the previous session, indicating reduced investor activity across both exchanges.
