The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has called for further streamlining of customs procedures, particularly faster clearance of export-import goods, to enhance the competitiveness of the readymade garment industry.

A BGMEA delegation led by Faruque Hassan made this call during a meeting with Mohammad Fyzur Rahman, Commissioner of Customs House, Chittagong, on Tuesday. The meeting focused on key concerns related to customs procedures that affect the RMG industry and explored ways to address them.

Faruque emphasized the importance of reducing lead time in the highly competitive global market, highlighting its crucial role in maintaining competitiveness within the fashion industry. He urged the Customs House to implement immediate measures to ensure smoother and faster services, particularly in the clearance of export-import goods.

The Customs Commissioner assured the delegation that the Customs House would provide the necessary support.

Present at the meeting were BGMEA First Vice President Syed Nazrul Islam, Vice President (Finance) Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, Vice Presidents Md. Nasir Uddin and Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, former Director Anjan Shekhar Das, Chair of BGMEA Standing Committee on Trade Fair Mohammed Kamal Uddin, and Chair of BGMEA Standing Committee on UD-Woven & Knit Md.
