The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is hosting an essay reading and discussion event titled ‘Srijane-Smriti’ to honor the memory of deceased artists and sculptors.
Under the guidance of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is conducting various programs to pay tribute to the late icons. Today, on August 17, 2025, an essay reading and discussion program named ‘Srijane-Smriti’ was held to commemorate the late artists and sculptors of Bangladesh. The event featured discussions on the life, work, and contributions of Shilpakharaya Zainul Abedin and Patua Kamrul Hasan.
The first session took place at the National Art Gallery Auditorium at 4:30 PM, presided over by Mohammad Wares Hossain, the Secretary and Acting Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Aesthetician and art critic Bulbon Osman presented an essay on Shilpakharaya Zainul Abedin. BNP Joint Secretary General Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel participated as a discussant, and Engineer Mainul Abedin, son of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, joined the discussion as a family representative.
The second session is scheduled to commence at 6:30 PM at the same location. It has been reported that during the event honoring Patua Kamrul Hasan, chaired by Mohammad Wares Hossain, Nahin Mahmud, a part-time lecturer in the Department of History of Art at Dhaka University, will present an essay on Patua Kamrul Hasan. Pradyot Kumar Das, the Director (in-charge) of the Fine Arts Department at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, will serve as a discussant, and Sumona Hasan, the daughter of Patua Kamrul Hasan, will participate in the discussion as a family member.
An essay reading and discussion program ‘Srijane – Smriti’ is also set to take place in memory of artist S. M. Sultan at the National Art Gallery Auditorium on August 18, 2025, at 4:30 PM, followed by a session honoring sculptor Novera Ahmed at the same venue at 6:30 PM.
