Shama calls for increased Japanese investment in priority sectors

B Mirror Report: Bangladesh has encouraged Japan to expand its investment in several priority areas, including renewable energy, ICT, and infrastructure, during a bilateral meeting held in Dakar aimed at strengthening economic ties.

The discussion took place between State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam and Japanese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Onishi Yohei on the sidelines of the Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued today.

During the meeting, Bangladesh emphasized the need for greater Japanese investment not only in renewable energy and information and communication technology but also in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, agro-processing, and manufacturing.

Both sides explored opportunities to deepen collaboration in trade, connectivity, technology transfer, skills development, and people-to-people contacts.

The state minister also conveyed appreciation for Japan’s ongoing support in addressing the Rohingya crisis and requested continued assistance to ensure their safe, swift, and sustainable repatriation to Myanmar.
