Seven proposals for new health sector legislation

The Health Reform Commission has suggested a review and modernization of existing laws to enhance patient safety, financial management, accountability, and emergency preparedness, while also proposing the establishment of seven new laws.

These proposed laws include the Bangladesh Health Commission Act, the Bangladesh Health Service Act, the Primary Health Service Act, the Health Protection Act, the Drug Pricing and Access Act, the Applied Health Professionals Council Act, and the Bangladesh Medical Research Council Act. Professor AK Azad Khan, Chairman of the Health Sector Reform Commission, shared this information during a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road in the capital on Monday, May 5.

Previously, the Health Reform Commission presented its report to the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, at approximately 11 am. The 12-member Health Sector Reform Commission was established on November 17, 2024, under the leadership of National Professor and President of the Bangladesh Diabetic Association, Professor Dr. AK Azad Khan, and comprises distinguished doctors, public health specialists, former government officials, and a student representative.
